uda Pabianicka, a small part of one of the quarters of Lodz during the
interwar period was a social and cultural enclave of Lodz's German
community. Ruda is a nice terrain. Its post-glacial area is covered by clean
forests and contains numerous ponds.
The German community in this area was very active in the past. There are
many buildings left until nowadays, such as a school, teachers' house,
farms, church. Nonetheless, nobody can estimate the number of Germans living
here in the past. Certainly it was more than a half of the 80-thousand
German minority in Lodz.
The countryside character of Ruda has already been the past. The extensive
farms belonging to Fromberg, Agater, Krohl, Bursch and other families have
disappeared.
Forcing through the woods, one can find old and beautiful Geyer villas,
swimming pool, a place where tennis courts used to be and many other. Seeing
the cemetery on the hill is also recommended. There are graves of thousands
German and Russian soldiers from the I World War there.
Nowadays, however, different people are living here. All that is left are
the buildings and the memory.
